Assessment-led care
Myotherapy
Myotherapy is an assessment-led approach to pain and movement concerns. Your appointment starts with understanding what is happening, how it affects you and what you want to get back to, then uses appropriate treatment and guidance based on that assessment.
What Myotherapy is
Myotherapy begins with a relevant assessment: a conversation and physical checks that help build a working understanding of your concern. The aim is not to make assumptions from the sore area alone. It is to consider how the concern behaves, what movements or activities affect it, and what matters to you.
That working understanding guides a practical plan. Depending on your concern and preferences, the appointment may include hands-on care, movement advice, or exercise and rehabilitation guidance. Rehabilitation simply means helping you build capacity for the activities you want to return to. Not every person needs every option, and the balance may change from one appointment to the next.
How hands-on treatment may fit
Hands-on treatment may be used to work with relevant muscles and other soft tissues, help you explore comfortable movement, or support the broader plan. The approach and pressure can be adjusted to your concern and preferences. Hands-on care is not mandatory in every appointment.
How exercise or rehabilitation guidance may fit
Guidance may include simple movement, mobility or strength work, or a gradual return to an activity that matters to you. It should be practical, relevant and manageable. Exercise is not added automatically, and any plan may be reviewed and adjusted as your needs change.
What an appointment may involve

Appointments are individualised, so the exact sequence and time spent on each part may vary. A first session usually creates more space for assessment and explanation; follow-ups build on what is already known.
You should have a clear sense of the working plan and next steps before the appointment ends.
- A conversation about the concern, how it affects you and what you want from care.
- Relevant movement or physical assessment, depending on the concern.
- An explanation of the working understanding and options available.
- Appropriate hands-on treatment where it is useful and agreed.
- Exercise or movement guidance where it may support the plan.
- A discussion of practical next steps.
Initial and follow-up Myotherapy care
Initial Myotherapy Treatment
60 minutes. This is the first-session option, with time for assessment, explanation, appropriate treatment and an initial plan.
Follow-Up Long Myotherapy Consultation
60 minutes. This returning-patient option may suit a follow-up that needs more time for review, treatment or progression of the plan.
Follow-Up Short Myotherapy Consultation
45 minutes. This returning-patient option may suit a more focused review or treatment need.
The Myotherapy booking chooser keeps all three verified options together so new and returning patients can select the appropriate starting point.
Myotherapy and Remedial Massage
Myotherapy
A clearer starting point when you want more assessment, explanation and a plan. Hands-on care and exercise or rehabilitation guidance may be included where useful.
Remedial Massage
A clearer starting point when your priority is tailored hands-on care for tightness, soreness, stress-related tension, recovery or maintenance.
Neither service is automatically better. Compare Myotherapy and Remedial Massage for a concise service guide.
When Myotherapy may be a useful starting point
Myotherapy may be a sensible place to begin when you:
- have a concern that feels persistent or recurring;
- want an assessment and clearer direction;
- are unsure why a movement or activity has become difficult;
- want hands-on treatment considered as part of a broader plan; or
- want guidance about gradually returning to activity.
If neck pain is the main concern, the neck pain information page explains the clinic’s broader assessment and care options. Myotherapy does not guarantee a particular outcome, and another service or medical pathway may sometimes be more appropriate.
